What changes when you open google.co.jp from a Japanese home connection, what does not, what the site's rules allow, and the exact proxy settings to use.
Quick answer
How do I see Google Japan the way a visitor in Japan does?
To see Google Japan (google.co.jp) results the way a searcher in Japan sees them, send the search through a residential IP in Japan, signed out, with hl=ja&gl=jp in the URL. The IP decides which local results and ads Google treats as relevant; the URL parameters set the language and the country to favour. JapanProxies sells Japanese residential IPs by country code jp, paid in crypto with no KYC. As of October 2026, 1 GB costs $2.62 and plans from 100 GB cost $0.50/GB; IPs are chosen by country, with optional city targeting (city availability varies).

Google Search serves Japan on google.co.jp, in Japanese by default. Yahoo! JAPAN Search has used Google's search technology since 2010, so ranking work for Japan almost always starts with Google.
Results in Japan differ from results in the United States or Europe for most queries, including English ones. Japanese pages, Japanese businesses and Japanese news sources rank for searchers located in Japan.
-city-tokyo) gets an IP in that city when one is online, and city availability varies; the site may still infer a nearby area from other signals.ja-JP) are the ones Google shows to searchers in Japan.More examples in our guide to local search result checks.
Google's terms of service do not allow automated access that ignores the machine-readable instructions on its pages, and the robots.txt of google.co.jp disallows /search for all robots. Keep proxy checks to what a person would do by hand, at a human pace.
For data about your own site, Google Search Console reports clicks, impressions and average position by country, Japan included, for free. For ads, the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool in Google Ads shows your ads for a chosen location without counting impressions. A Japanese residential IP is for the checks those tools cannot do: seeing the full page as a person in Japan sees it.
Our own acceptable use policy applies too: public pages only, no sign-in on someone else's behalf, and respect for each site's decisions about access.

Yes, for most queries. Google favours Japanese pages and Japanese businesses for searchers located in Japan, and the same English query often returns different pages, different ads and different local listings from a Japanese IP than from a US one.
It gets close, but it is not the same view. The gl parameter tells Google which country to favour, while local results and ads also depend on where the IP is. A Japanese residential IP removes that difference, so the page matches what a searcher in Japan gets.
JapanProxies offers city targeting on every plan: add -city-tokyo or -city-osaka after -country-jp in the username. City availability varies, and Google Japan may also use other signals to place a visit, so treat the result as that city's general view. For ads in one city, the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool in Google Ads lets you choose a precise location.
